A little about Margate
Margate is found on the South Coast of Kwazulu-Natal and is the hub of Beach Holiday Accommodation industry of the South Coast. Only an hour South from Durban and boasting its own airport it really is a cool destination for holiday-makers. People from up-country regularly flock to the sunny beaches throughout the year and dine out in one of the many restaurants in the area. During the day there really is nothing better to do than to laze around on one of the many beaches in the area, the main one being Margate's beach.
The busy season for Margate is during the December/January school holidays and activities are hosted throughout the week including Madigra's, Beach Festivals, Concerts, all night parties at the local nightclubs and many more.
The Sardine Run
Margate has been home to many spectacular events over the years including the annual "Sardine Run" where millions of Sardines descend upon the shorelines of the South Coast. The entire coast becomes emerged in the festivities and beaches are packed with people in hope of catching a sighting of the massive "Bait Balls".
The Crocodile Farm is situated in Ramsgate and has a large collection of crocodiles and snakes. Feeding time is a frenzy as everyone tries to catch a glimpse of the crocs devouring their lunch.
Go and have lunch between the banana trees. The best sweet and savoury pancakes this side of the vaal. There is a lovely Farm stall that sells absolutely everything you can imagine when it comes to fresh produce.
Pub Lunches in an old style saloon with karaoke. Watch out for the donkey.
